This month’s Royal Highland Show was a successful start to the show season, with females particularly faring well.
Standing first in the aged ewes was one-crop ewe HBR1600780, a Ballynahone ewe bred by Richard Henderson and sired by the noted Duncryne Ubercool.
The flock’s ewe lambs, PFD1802350 and PFD1802456, were also well placed, taking second and third in the class. PFD1802350 is a Strawfrank Alphonso daughter out of an Anglezarke Uno-sired dam, while PFD1802456 is by the homebred Procters Abracadbra out of a dam by Glenside Whiskey Galore.
In the gimmers PFD1701618 stood fifth, with this one being by the 70,000gns Teiglum Younggun and out of a dam by Scrogtonhead U Stoater.
The male classes were also fruitful, with PFD1802379 taking third in the performance recorded class and Procters Bright Spark standing fourth in the open class. PFD1802379 is a son of Eden Valley Wiz Kid, out of a Knap dam, with PFD1802468 being by Abracadabra and out of a U Stoater dam.
Meanwhile, in the show’s young handlers competition Katie won both her age group and the overall championship, showing ewe lamb PFD1802456. This is the second time Katie has taken the championship in the young handlers, having previously won it in 2016.
And that second win for Katie made it a trio of wins for the children, with Robbie having won the championship in 2015.
