The Procters Beltex flock was founded in 2013 with the purchase of a select number of females from leading lines within the breed.
The core of these foundation females came from Elizabeth McAllister’s Artnagullion flock, in the form of four ET bred sisters; Artnagullion Savanna, Artnagullion Special One, Artnagullion Samantha and Artnagullion Sizie. These four are all by Graham’s Ringo and out of Artnagullion Kandy Floss, a daughter of the renowned Ulysses.
Joining these four in the flock were Orkney Suzabelle, a Forglen ET daughter out of a dam by Langlands Lancelot, and Rathbone Saskia, a Rathbone Leader daughter.
Embryo transfer work has been undertaken to expand the flock and capitalise on the high quality genetics present within these females.
Sale success to date includes the sale of Procters Aerosmith for 11,000gns at the Beltex Society’s premier sale, Carlisle, in 2016 when he joined Ian Reid’s Osprey flock.
Meanwhile, in the show ring, Procters Anastasia was tapped out as female and reserve breed champion at the Royal Highland Show in 2016 as a gimmer and returned to be reserve female champion the following year as a one crop ewe.
Both Aerosmith and Anastasia are bred from the Artnagullion foundation females, with Aerosmith being out of Samantha and Anastasia being a daughter of Sizie. Both are sired by Rathbone Wallace.
Sires used in the flock to date include Rathbone Wallace, Hackney Classic, Myna Actor and the homebred Procters Aerosmith.
Myna Actor was subsequently sold for 3000gns as an aged ram at Carlisle in 2018, while in the same year our pen of shearling rams at the Society’s Skipton sale averaged £1155
